It's been a strange year for rocketry. Some might even say not very typical. We don't want people thinking that rockets aren't safe, built to very rigorous engineering standards. We have regulations governing what materials they can be made of. There is a minimum motor requirement. One, I suppose. Very seldom does the front fall off. We'd like to make the point that's not normal.
But what is normal is for WA's finest rocketeers and spectators to spend the September long weekend enjoying two days of launches, food and fun hosted by the Western Australian Rocketry Society! So let's head out into another environment on the 27th and 28th of September for the 2025 Williams ‘Wildfire’ Westernationals because “INSERT CLEVER TITLE HERE”

THE EVENT
A staple of the WARS calendar, WWW is an event that has ranged in scope from members camping, eating and launching rockets together to huge celebrations including seated three course dinners and fireworks, and everything in between. With wide recovery areas, fantastic scenery and wonderful company it is an ideal place to be for both the rocket enthusiast and any interested friends and family. The regular event runs over the Saturday and Sunday, with the grounds open from 8am Saturday for arrival and setup until 6pm Sunday for pack up and departure. The range is generally open from 9am till 4pm each day for flying, feature flights are normally in the early afternoon subject to weather conditions. Besides the entertainment of rocketry there are events such as Saturday afternoons Mariescombe Slice Off, where attendees are welcome to submit their best afternoon tea snack to be judged by the crowd in the hope of winning a year holding the coveted Rolling Pin Trophy, and the Saturday Night Banquet where we get to relax and eat together and find out the winners of the various awards. Besides the Slice Off there is also the Sheraton Award for best campsite, open to flyers and non-flyers, and the Pink Hat award, usually awarded to someone really going the extra mile to not successfully fly a rocket.
